Our vision is to build a network of churches, ministries, and businesses through which God’s river of life can transform people, their communities, and the systems in which they participate.

Vision Explained
|
|
|
|
|
God’s river of life is the “river of the water of life” referred to in the first two verses of chapter 22 of Revelation — the last book of the Bible:
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. (Revelation 22:1-2)
It’s a picture of God entering the lives of those who are willing to receive him. By letting him in we can live the way he wants us to live — the way we would choose to live if we knew what he knows about us and about the world we live in.

Vision Narrative
|
|
|
|
|
God wants to live inside of you! Then, from the inside he wants to transform your life into something beyond your wildest dreams. While he’s doing that, he wants your life to be a springboard that allows him to reach many others as well.
We want to support this process. If you think of God’s life as a never-ending river, we want to bring that river to you. It begins when you hear the life-changing message of what God has done and is doing through Jesus Christ. You may or may not remember when you first embraced the message but after you do, you notice your life changing. The changes may seem small at first, but the longer you stay in the river, the bigger they get.
You notice a new love for God in your heart that you never experienced before. You find yourself connected to others who are having the same experience. Some of them never expected to have anything to do with God but now they and you know him intimately.
You also notice a new love for others — even your enemies — that you never experienced before. God’s life on the inside is making you a better person, a better mother, father, sister, or brother. You’re becoming a better student, a better employee, a better businessperson, a better leader.
Others notice the changes in your life as well. Your family relationships and friendships are transformed into healthy nurturing life-giving bonds. You realize that you yourself have become a branch of the river and through you God’s life is reaching and transforming others. Because of you and the other changed people in the river with you, your community experiences new life and vitality. You begin to imagine a day when you’ll read your local newspaper and find that all of the bad news comes from somewhere else.
The new life within you is unstoppable. It gives you a hunger to see your city, your nation, and even the whole world renewed. Together with your new brothers and sisters in Christ you give birth to new cultural expressions. Your collective talents and gifts are woven together to create new music, new dramatic performances, renewed culture.
All this and more is what we see as we bring God’s river of life to a thirsty world. In order to achieve this vision we have made a commitment to remove any possible obstacle. That’s why we’re transforming the way church is done! Come on in and join us — the water’s fine!

During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so.

The audience is difficult to teach because they don't listen well. They should be teachers by now, but they are still beginners who haven't trained themselves to tell right from wrong; it's time for them to become mature.

The audience was being tempted to turn away from Jesus and go back to trying to keep the traditional Hebrew law. The Letter to the Hebrews was written to try to set them straight.

Slow to learn = sluggish listeners

If we don't listen well we can't get beyond the beginner stage and eat regular food. Beginners aren't unskilled at righteousness.

Mature people can handle regular food because they have trained themselves to tell right from wrong.

I had to tell her that I didn't want to speak to them. She had to take responsibility.

When you delegate a task:
|
|
|
|
Some people want to hand every issue back to you for a decision.
|
|
|
|
Others handle the details and produce the outcome you want. They take responsibility.
|
|
|
|
Taking responsibility is important in normal times, and it's even more important during a crisis.
|
|
|
|
The early Christians were no strangers to crises. The New Testament gives many examples of this. The Book of Hebrews was written to a group of Jewish Christians facing a crisis of intense persecution.
|
|
|
|
We're going to take a look at a passage from Hebrews to see what it has to say to us about taking responsibility
|
|
|
|
Read the Passage - Hebrews 5:7 - 6:3
|
|
|
|
|
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so.

The audience is difficult to teach because they don't listen well. They should be teachers by now, but they are still beginners who haven't trained themselves to tell right from wrong; it's time for them to become mature.

What does this mean?
|
|
|
|
The audience was being tempted to turn away from Jesus and go back to trying to keep the traditional Hebrew law. The Letter to the Hebrews was written to try to set them straight.
|

|
Jesus paid the price to be our high priest. This has many important implications that we need to understand.
|
|
|
|
Slow to learn = sluggish listeners
|
|
|
|
If we don't listen well we can't get beyond the beginner stage and eat regular food. Beginners aren't unskilled at righteousness.
|
|
|
|
Mature people can handle regular food because they have trained themselves to tell right from wrong.
|
|
|
|
Solid food ("meat" in KJV) is not soteriology, christology, pneumatology or other expressions of complex theology.
|
|
|
|
Solid food is when you let the Word identify areas of your life for you to work on and then consistently working on them ("constant use", "training").
|
|
|
|
Is it True? Do I believe it?
|
|
|
|
Yes!
|
|
|
|
As a new convert I learned to feed myself:

I studied the material my pastor gave me.
|
|

I memorized scripture.

I read books about biblical subjects.

I spent time with people who were spiritually ahead of me and tried to emulate them.

I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”
Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner — those who are not your offspring. Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”

For the director of music. A psalm of David.
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat. The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Now the LORD had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all the men who wanted to kill you are dead.” So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff of God in his hand.
The LORD said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go. Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son, and I told you, “Let my son go, so he may worship me.” But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.’”
At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met [Moses] and was about to kill him. But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched [Moses’] feet with it. “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said. So the LORD let him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.)

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
